I am sometimes astonished by the fact that how the most democratic countries in the world like Britain, Spain, Portugal, are still not republic. Why there are still token monarch in these countries?
It is obvious for any democratic country to remove the aristocratic rule of the dark ages as it transcends to the democratic rule. Still why is that there are threads of the feudal age left in this countries( and no matter we love them too......)
The idea of democracy and republic was borne in response to the feudalism and absolute authority of the monarchs. Now when we have realised the idea of power to people, we have decided to keep the very people whom we were against as our national heads. Don't this anomaly reflects a basic flaw of humans and that is to avoid taking responsibility of our future. Or we have grown so used to the idea of authority that we cannot remove it straight away.
Or the thing which makes me shudder is the idea that we perhaps"love authority" due to our "evolutionary origins". Otherwise how can we explain the reason that people love rejoicing the marriage of British royal house when in fact the exchequer is paying from their pockets(in the midst of tough times). And millions of people watch the live telecast of ROYALS WHO ARE ROYALS FROM ONLY BLOODLINES !!!!!!!!!!
This is nothing but love for authority...and more so a lack of willingness to take responsibility of the future(and that is why you still dwell in past.....come on you are not living in an empire now!!!). Authroity dwells on the idea that people do not want to take responsibility.
Anyhow, reasons apart, these token monarchs still represent a authority. An authority can be token but it is still an authority. You KNOW what I really mean if you are an anarchist........
